Science Connecting People
On October 28, 2020, FabLab, as the project coordinator, signed a tripartite grant agreement with the Ministry of Labor, Pensions, Family and Social Policy and the National Foundation for Civil Society Development.
The “SCOPE” project is funded by the European Social Fund within the tender “Thematic Network for Socio-Economic Development and Promotion of Social Dialogue in the Context of Improving Working Conditions”, the STEM area as a driver of society, Operational Program Effective Human Resources 2014-2020.
The FabLab Association implements the project in cooperation with renowned partners: Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb, Ruđer Bošković Institute, Višnjan Astronomical Society, Professor Baltazar Association, Association for Encouraging and Developing Creative and Social Potentials of Children, Youth and Adults CARPE DIEM, the Croatian Interdisciplinary Society, the Open Computer Workshop “We are all against”, the Cooperative ZEZ and Krapina-Zagorje County.
The aim of the project is to create a network of all relevant stakeholders in order to create a stimulating environment for the development and improvement of STEM area in terms of capacity building and cooperation of civil society organizations and joint action of all stakeholders in policy making in STEM area.
The latest data clearly show the lack of students in STEM programs and the lack of experts in some STEM areas. At the national level, the need for action in the STEM field is recognized in the Strategy of Education, Science and Technology, which states that knowledge and skills derived from the acronym STEM are necessary to cope in a technologically dependent society – for later action within scientific research, technological development and service. as a solid foundation for lifelong learning.
Therefore, the planned activities of this project are strengthening the partnership of civil society organizations and the inclusion of new members in the thematic network, as well as conducting public opinion polls and needs of society. After that, higher education institutions will conduct scientific research that will serve to develop guidelines for policy development. Finally, an analysis of the social impact of the proposed interventions and structured dialogues with decision makers will be conducted in order to implement the obtained solutions in public policies.
